Rotated Measure for Navisworks
Measure along your building's axis, not the world's.
What It Does
When Revit models are exported with shared coordinates, Navisworks aligns measurements to True North — not your building's grid. Your X axis points east, your Y axis points north, and neither one follows the building. Rotated Measure lets you define a rotation angle and get X/Y/Z results in your building's coordinate frame.
Set your angle once by typing it in, picking two points on any surface, or letting the plugin detect it automatically from model transforms. Every measurement you take after that reports Along/Across/Elevation relative to your building — the numbers that match what you'd see in Revit.
Features
Building Coordinate Results
X, Y, and Z results aligned to your building's grid, not world XYZ. Results match what you'd read in Revit's coordinate system.
All 8 Measurement Modes
Point to Point, Point to Multiple Points, Point Line, Accumulate, Angle, Area, Point, and Shortest Distance — all with rotation applied. Native Navisworks snapping is preserved.
Set Angle Your Way
Type an angle directly, pick two points on any surface to set bearing from geometry, or auto-detect from model transforms. Five named slots (A–E) for campus and multi-building projects.
Auto-Detect from Model
Select any element and the plugin reads the rotation from the model's coordinate transform — no manual entry needed for models exported with shared coordinates.
Project Base Point Offset
Enter a project base point to shift coordinates into local space. Start and End positions report relative to your project origin, not the Navisworks world origin.
Color-Coded Overlay
Overlay lines drawn in Navisworks axis colors — X red, Y green, Z blue, distance orange. Visual confirmation of what the measurement is capturing.
Multi-Angle Slots
Five labeled slots (A–E) per project for storing and switching between rotation angles. Switch buildings or site areas without re-entering your angles.
Right-Click to Copy
Right-click any value in the results panel to copy it. Or use the section copy buttons to grab Start, End, or Difference as a formatted coordinate string.
Persistent Settings
Angle, units, precision, and base point are saved per file. Reopen the model and your settings are right where you left them.
Who It's For
Anyone whose Navisworks X/Y doesn't match the building grid.
MEP Fabrication
Measure pipe and duct runs along the building grid, not world north. Get the numbers that match your shop drawings and Revit models.
BIM Coordination
Working with shared coordinates and True North rotation? Define the angle once and all measurements report in project north — the coordinate system everyone on the team expects.
Civil & Infrastructure
Site grids rarely align to world north. Set your road or site bearing and measure along the alignment instead of fighting the world coordinate system.
The Problem It Solves
Navisworks measures in world coordinates. Most buildings don't align to them.
When you export a Revit model with shared coordinates, Navisworks places the geometry according to the surveyor's True North. A building rotated 22 degrees on the site means your Navisworks X and Y axes are 22 degrees off from the building's walls. Every measurement you take in a corridor or pipe chase reports a mix of X and Y that doesn't match anything on your drawings.
Rotated Measure applies a rotation transform to your measurement results. You define the angle — manually, by picking two points on a wall, or automatically from the model — and the plugin reports Along, Across, and Elevation relative to that axis. The numbers match your building grid, your drawings, and your Revit coordinates.
